Job Summary/Overview
As an Import/Export, you will play a key role in facilitating the movement of goods across international borders, ensuring regulatory compliance and optimizing logistical processes. You will be responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, obtaining quotes from carriers, assisting with product classification, completing necessary paperwork, drafting certificates, qualifying products for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and resolving excess, shortage and damage (OS&D) issues with buyers and sales representatives. You will work closely with carriers, customs brokers, warehouses and the plant to ensure efficient operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee import and export processes from start to finish, including documentation, customs clearance, transportation and delivery.
- Collaborate with suppliers, vendors and freight forwarders to ensure timely and accurate shipment of goods.
- Prepare and review import and export documentation, including invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin and other customs documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local and international trade regulations, customs laws and tariffs to avoid delays or penalties.
- Communicate and collaborate with customs brokers and forwarders to ensure accurate and efficient customs clearance.
- Obtain and compare quotes from carriers to optimize transportation costs and efficiency.
- Assist in the classification of products according to Harmonized System (HS) codes and manage associated documentation.- Draft certificates of origin and other certificates required to comply with trade agreements and regulations.- Qualify products for Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and manage related documentation.- Work closely with buyers, sales representatives and carriers to quickly resolve overage, shortage and damage (OS&D) issues.- Monitor and track shipments, providing regular updates to internal teams and external partners.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in relevant field (freight forwarder, customs brokerage and importer preferred)
• Experience working with IMMEX Program and VAT-IEPS, OEA and CTPAT.
• Knowledge of Customs and Other Government agency Regulations, Harmonized Tariff classifications, and Customs Entry Process
• Experience working with IMMEX Program and VAT-IEPS, OEA and CTPAT.
• Experience dealing with Official Mexican Standards (NOM)
• Proficient knowledge of customs compliance as well as other government agency regulatory import/export requirements
Required Qualifications
• B.A./B.S. in business, global logistics, or other related studies
