Job Summary/Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is an essential position on the plant operations team. This position has responsibilities for leading and supporting plantwide continuous improvement activities, quality, and problem-solving processes. The Manufacturing Engineer must also ensure equipment and tooling are developed and maintained per engineering and customer specifications. Finally, this position also must create and update routings through time studies to support the plant master production schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help to facilitate and promote safety throughout the facility.
  • Program, edit, and validate CNC lathes and mills.
  • Use MRP software (AS/400) to create and maintain routings through time studies to support the production schedule.
  • Ability to utilize SolidWorks & PDM to create and edit model and drawings.
  • Identify, lead, manage, and contribute to projects which may include design, development, rebuilding, cost savings, and continuous improvements.
  • Work with Manufacturing Technician to develop and improve tooling, equipment, and fixturing.
  • Act as a technical resource for manufacturing departments.
  • Work with management to support company capital plans through the design and development of work cells, machines, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Coordinate daily activities involved in the operation of the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
  • Instrumental in the development and implementation of Work Cells, One Piece Flow Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing Principles, and SMED.
  • Responsible for maintaining plant layout.
  • Work closely with maintenance departments to ensure that all safety related items are addressed in an expeditious manner.
  • Prepare capital appropriations.
  • Must provide tooling quotes for new parts or products and changes to existing parts or products.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Possess ability to perform cost analysis to use in decision making process for make vs. buy.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

  • CNC machining, programming, and fixture design experience.
  • Experience with 5-axis and automation strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP and MRP software (AS/400 experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience with non-destructive inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic statistics.
  • Familiar with Root Cause and Preventive Action methods.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Ability to apply concepts in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, physics, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings/prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  •  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing field preferred. Associate degree and 3+ years experience or in lieu of formal education, 7+ years experience in manufacturing engineering field considered.
