Job Summary/Overview

The Application Engineer performs the activities concerned with responding to a customer’s inquiry or purchase order for CMCO material handling equipment or parts. This position also advises the customers in using the best practice for selection and application of all CMCO products.

Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of company products and competing equipment. Aids in the design and development of equipment and systems, and redesign of existing systems to fulfill the needs of customers. Responsibilities also include providing equipment functionality and capability reports to the sales force, and acting as technical liaison to the sales team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison between customer and the company.
  • Reviews customer product specifications to determine and guarantee the appropriate equipment for the customer’s application is being provided.
  • Determine if the customer request can be filled with standard product or if it requires a special engineered product.
  • Confers with the Engineering Department to determine the feasibility of designing and the design of the special equipment.
  • Confirms with production personnel the feasibility to manufacture and to obtain an estimate of production time.
  • Working with Production Control, analyzes current production schedules and confirms delivery date with the customer.
  • Confers with Purchasing to obtain quotes for nonstandard parts, components, and features from outside sources and issues purchase requisitions.
  • Negotiates specification changes, pricing and delivery dates, as required. 
  • Answers customer inquiries regarding linear actuator component operational functions.
  • Upon request, provides specific technical literature to customers.
  • Provides feedback to Quality and Product Engineering regarding field performance of products.
  • Processes Government orders according to government regulations and/or standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, suppliers, customers, and other intercompany personnel.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Apply the concepts of the metric system.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to grasp and understand mechanical and electrical concepts.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be computer literate and knowledgeable of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field;
  • and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
