Job Summary/Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer identifies and directs continuous improvement activities in the manufacturing processes.  This position supports manufacturing in the daily manufacturing problem solving process. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer also ensures equipment and tooling are developed and maintained per engineering specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, lead, manage and contribute to projects which may include design, development, rebuilding, cost savings, process improvements and /or documentation on new and/or existing production tooling, equipment and processes. 
  • Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. 
  • Evaluate field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate malfunctions. 
  • Review project designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and related specifications. 
  • Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering designs and test problems. 
  • Work with machine shop to improve tooling, equipment designs and machine shop output. 
  • Program CNC lathes and mills. May be involved in the programming, maintenance, and documentation of Numeric Control programs.  
  • Communicate and collaborate with production members, maintenance, tool room, engineering and outside suppliers. 
  • Act as a technical resource for manufacturing Departments. 
  • Assist in troubleshooting manufacturing issues. 
  • Manage tooling and equipment projects, working with suppliers during development to ensure tooling and equipment meets quality, cost, timing, and specification requirements. 
  • Direct the initial phases of tool engineering and tryout of new or modified tooling. 
  • Design and develop fixtures for tooling fabrication.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   
  • Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  
  • Ability to apply concepts in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, physics, hydraulics and pneumatics. 
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.   
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree  
  • 2-5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, electrical, or mechanical engineering 
  • High competence with Microsoft Office and Solidworks CAD software packages
