Job Summary/Overview
This position is responsible for heat treating various steel forgings and performing various tests on the forgings to validate product to hardness, ductility and strength specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate batch & continuous heat treat equipment: furnace and quench tanks.
- Check concentration of the quench tanks – oil and water. Empty and clean.
- Grind various steel forgings to perform Brinell & Rockwell harness tests.
- Perform Magnetic particle or liquid penetrate tests to check for cracks in forgings after heat treating process.
- Various date entry into CMBIS i.e. heat treat records, heat treat formulas, tensile test records.
- This classification also requires team members to rotate into all areas of classification on a regular basis.
- Assists or performs training of other personnel on job duties as directed by Supervisor.
- Performs other duties conducive to assuring optimum productivity within the Plant as the need arises, and other duties as assigned by Supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Must be able to use different testing equipment: tape measure, micrometers, calipers, tension and hardness testers.
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings / blueprints.
- Must have understanding of tolerances.
- Must have understanding of various materials & heat treating process.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to troubleshoot the heat treat process when desired hardness readings are not obtained.
- Must be computer literate.
- The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers.
- The employee is regularly required to stand or squat and to reach with hands and arms while retrieving and filling records.
- Ability to lift/lower/push/pull up to 40 lbs. safely
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate, GED or equivalent experience required.
- Previous forging experience preferred.
