Job Summary/Overview
As an Assistant Controller in the Finance department of CMCO, your talents, skills and experience will have a direct impact on moving the organization forward. Reporting directly to the Controller, this key leadership role is responsible for the full month-end close cycle, post-close reporting, audit coordination and cost accounting activities. You’ll be joining a high-performing team where continuous improvement is championed, and where you’ll directly influence organizational success by contributing to operational improvements through financial analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Owns the full cycle monthly close process, including preparing journal entries for accruals and allocations, and preparation of internal and external financial statements and management reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Review general ledger and financial statements for accuracy; prepare monthly general ledger and balance sheet account reconciliations
- Drive variance analysis related to financial results, including job variance analysis, labor and burden rate analysis, pricing analysis, missing costs analysis, and more
- Performs daily, monthly, and annual accounting processes in compliance with company policies
- Collect, analyze and record data to determine the costs of business activities, including margin analysis for projects and product lines; works with cross-functional team to address and resolve low-margin product concerns
- Support monthly and annual inventory activities, including cycle counting and E&O analysis
- Support capital acquisition and major expense requisition processes and reporting; maintain fixed asset system and manage periodic verification audits
- Serve as primary audit contact, managing SOX documentation for the business unit
- Assist with financial budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes
- Provide guidance to other Finance team members (AR, AP, staff accountant, cycle counting)
- Assist controller with supervision of team, analysis and ad-hoc projects
- Work closely with cross-departmental teams and other business units to improve our processes; lead and support CI projects

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to work as a business partner with others in a cross-departmental capacity; able to drive results
- Strong accounting, quantitative and analytical skills along with the ability to apply those skills within the role
- A self-starter with the ability to identify issues and take initiative for process improvement
- Demonstrates strong project and time management skills
- Actively champions continuous manufacturing and process improvements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance or related field
- CPA strongly preferred
- 5+ years of related experience in a manufacturing / cost accounting environment
- Strong GAAP, inventory and cost accounting knowledge
