Job Summary/Overview
The Associate Buyer actively seeks additional information and knowledge and steadily develops technical competence. They demonstrate the ability to complete assigned tasks successfully while managing the procurement of assigned materials and services needed to meet daily manufacturing plans. The primary focus of this position will be to deal with all aspects of commodity management, including scheduling, negotiating, expediting, dealing with any accounting issues, and working with the QA group on any quality issues. Other Supply Chain related project work includes but is not limited to – cost savings projects, inventory management, working with Dorner satellite facilities, safety, IT-related projects, and internal auditing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accountable for timely ordering of required materials and requisition review.
- ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system maintenance of parameters such as supplier lead times, etc.
- Determines methods of procurement such as direct purchase or quote.
- Prepares purchase orders or quote requests.
- Reviews quote proposals and negotiates within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Create, solicit, and analyze supplier RFQ’s.
- Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates and awards contracts to bidders or places orders with suppliers.
- Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, suppliers, and others to determine the source of trouble and take corrective action.
- Expedites delivery of goods to users.
- Buying and negotiating (including some international suppliers).
- Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
- Uses MRP to initiate and change purchase orders.
- Approves Invoices.
- Participate in supplier relationship strategy endeavors.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Familiarity with supply chain management, logistics, and inventory control.
- Understanding of procurement methods, including RFQs, RFPs, and purchase orders.
- Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in orders and contracts.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams like marketing, sales, and logistics.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing market conditions and business requirements.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, MS Office is a plus.
- APICS certification a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred. In the absence of a 4-year degree in an appropriate field of study, this position requires eight (8) years of related manufacturing experience.
