Job Summary/Overview

This position includes designing and detailing parts and assemblies to meet customer order needs, or design and detail of standard parts and assemblies to meet product development guidelines. The Designer also creates bills of material for products and enters product data into the CM Dorner Manufacturing business system. These tasks are all done in a fast-paced project- based environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Detail designs created by engineers, which includes determining tolerances, fits, dimension schemes etc.
  •  Create detailed drawings using 3D Drafting software.
  •  Create mechanical designs with direction from engineers or where some previous design precedence exists.
  • Release product designs and changes through Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing regarding design or detail related issues.
  • Provide application assistance to Sales on the products and applications.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

  • Ability to solve problems from defining issues, to examining alternatives and effects.
  • Ability to learn quickly and become a product knowledge expert in conveyor product lines.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form 
  • Works well as a team to achieve a common goal with the ability to work independently.
  •  Ability to learn product lines quickly and their applications.   
  • Must be detail orientated and able to complete tasks with an extremely low error rate.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a technical field or certification program requiring two years to complete
  • 1+ years of related experience
