Job Summary/Overview
The Mechanical Engineer provides both new product development and sustaining mechanical engineering support regarding all new and existing products to the product managers, sales, engineering, service, and manufacturing, in compliance with company policies and procedures. The Mechanical Engineer also coordinates the implementation of engineering changes to standard products, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of new products and the improvement of existing products, including component selection and bill of material creation/maintenance.
- Develop 2D and 3D models of assemblies, enclosures, and components using computer-aided design software.
- Provide technical support to engineering, sales, and product management on new and existing products.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities in both materials, processes, and recommend course of action.
- Provide technical content for manuals and marketing materials for both new and existing products, as required.
- Evaluate and process engineering changes. Notify and coordinate changes with various affected departments and outside vendors.
- Manage and update engineering data in ERP system.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation standards.
- Act as a technical resource to Manufacturing and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems regarding assigned products.
- Ensure the long-term maintenance, product improvement, and cost reductions of assigned products.
- Lead or participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
- Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
- Travel, as needed, to other Magnetek office locations to ensure accurate and efficient support of the assigned product line(s) from conceptual discussions, requirements and design specification, introduction, to phase out.
- Travel, as needed, to end-user facilities to assist with startup and troubleshooting of Magnetek products. May or may not be accompanied with personnel from the Magnetek field service group.
- Optionally participate actively in approved industry organizations and committees.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Travel percentage 5-10%

- Displays strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications.
- Demonstrates product knowledge obtained through experiential hands-on training.
- Experience with SolidWorks, CAD, and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 2+ years engineering experience preferred
