Position: Senior Manager - Design Development
Location: Chennai, India
Job Summary/Overview
This is a strategic and technical leadership role focused initially on local mechanical design development of key products. Over a period of 1–2 years, the role will evolve into a Coordinating Manager for the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Chennai, acting as a bridge between the European HQ and the local engineering team supporting global customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Product Design Ownership: Lead the design and development of specified products locally. Translate global specifications into manufacturable designs.
- 3D Modeling & CAD Development: Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent tools. Ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with CE/IS standards.
- Engineering Analysis: Conduct FEA, material selection, and tolerance studies. Validate designs through simulation and testing.
- Prototype Development: Identify and manage external design partners/vendors. Oversee prototype fabrication, testing, and approval.
- Documentation & Release: Prepare BOMs, technical specifications, and release packages. Manage engineering change control and versioning.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with sourcing, manufacturing, and sales teams. Support cost optimization and design-for-manufacturing initiatives.
- Team Supervision: Guide engineers handling Order Management, Offer Management, Spares Engineering, and Service Support.
- Process Standardization: Develop and implement SOPs, templates, and workflows. Ensure consistency and quality in engineering outputs.
- Global Coordination: Act as the technical liaison between European HQ and Chennai CoE. Align local engineering efforts with global standards and timelines.
- Performance Management: Monitor KPIs for design quality, turnaround time, and customer satisfaction. Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Talent Development: Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative culture. Support training and capability building across the CoE.

Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 12–15 years in mechanical design, product development, and engineering leadership. Proven track record in large engineering firms
