Job Summary/Overview
The Senior Engineering Lab Technician is critical in supporting product development, validation, and continuous improvement efforts through hands-on testing, data collection, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced lab environment and be comfortable with both mechanical and electrical testing protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to maintain and prioritize incoming test requests and evaluate testing schedule.
- Collaborate with NPD and Sustaining Engineering, Operations, and Test Lab teammates to interpret results and recommend design or process improvements.
- Create and execute test plans and procedures for prototype and production components and systems based on NPD and Sustaining projects and schedules using CMCO’s test procedures.
- Responsible for the development and modification of test methods and apparatus for new products and processes.
- Performs statistical data analysis, interpretations, and documents experimental results. Evaluate and make visual observations on product samples from competitors.
- Communicates test results to the appropriate requester by generating lab reports. Mentor and train new personnel on basic safety, principles, and procedures in laboratories.
- Assure availability of test materials and components by maintaining and ordering needed supplies and equipment.
- Maintains accurate technical test reports for information transfer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external resources.
- Must be organized and pay excellent attention to detail.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with test setups, equipment, and components.
- Expertise with programming and setting up LabView data acquisition systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, & Power Point.

- Strong planning skills with a sense of urgency.
- Strong analytical and interpretative skills.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or related field
- Strong technical background and experience working as a member of cross-functional new product development teams.
- Proficient with wiring motors, drives (VFD’s and Contactor controls), control panels, and reading electrical schematic diagrams.
- Proficient in the use of typical lab equipment (Thermocouples, Pressure Gages, Power Supplies, Power Analyzers, etc.); Ability to program PLCs is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including effective presentation skills, one-on-one communication, technical writing, and report writing.
