Job Summary/Overview

Responsible for setting up and operating electric arc, spot welding, gas welding, and induction heat treat equipment to fabricate, assemble, repair, and heat treat metal parts and tools in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, and company quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, welding symbols, and written or verbal instructions to fabricate, assemble, and weld metal components to specifications.
  • Set up, measure, cut, prepare, and position materials and parts for welding and fabrication.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), Flux-Cored (FCAW), and other required welding processes based on production and quality requirements.
  • Safely operate welding equipment, grinders, cutting torches, and other fabrication tools while following OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Inspect completed welds and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of welding equipment and report equipment or quality issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, quality personnel, and production team members to meet production schedules and manufacturing goals.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; related welding training, experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current welding certification required, including successful completion of the ASME Section VII and IX Certification Test (or other required company/customer certifications).
  • Welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency in one or more welding processes, including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and/or Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
  • Knowledge of welding safety practices, quality standards, and the use of precision measuring tools.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
